 Your new role

We are looking for a Junior Service Designer within Architecture, Design and Technology services that forms part of our capability to support the creation of sustainable whole services. Delivering the right experiences for our colleagues and customers across our business and operational services.

As a Junior Service Designer, you will be engaging with a range of projects to develop and assure service designs as part of our strategic services function, which are not limited to just the Digital Services part, as well identifying, and building our own groups capabilities and service offerings to set the direction for the design of services.

You will be prioritising the needs of the service users and their safety. You will be motivated by the desire to understand and promote the needs of our service users. Listening to them, engaging with them, communicating, and feeding back with them. You will be driven by a desire to help others and be their advocate through the project delivery lifecycle as well as being an advocate for good design practices.

Our hybrid working environment is open to consider opportunities from returners and/or those looking for part time or job share.

What you’ll be leading on

  • Working with Service Designers and Service Architects to ensure Architecture, Design and Technology services are delivering the right value, guardrails, policy, governance, safety, and good practice for the project change/delivery programmes.
  • The presentation of user information in ways that both technical and non-technical stakeholders can meaningfully understand.
  • Establishing and fostering conversations across multiple disciplines and driving consensus between different perspectives.
  • Keeping an eye on digital technology developments, communicating them back to the team and promoting discussions to understand their impact on the team and our users.
  • Adopting standard models for understanding problems and for capturing user pain points and/or opportunities and drawing up options for designs that can be explored using tools such as wireframes or simple prototyping.
  • Differentiating and promoting the respective research tools for understanding user needs, processes, and information to create the right content for user feedback so that the team can measure progress and manage user expectations.

To be successful

  • Must be conversant in the design of services, and the concepts behind design patterns and toolkits.
  • Must be aware of and be confident working in both agile and waterfall project teams.
  • Be able to promote collaborative opportunities that support process design and redesign.
  • Be familiar with user research methods to capture user needs and service value.
  • User focus – You can demonstrate the value of collaboration and a drive to represent users internally. You have an appreciation of the different types of users. You understand the role, structure, and value of the user story, and can promote their adoption in the design of services.
  • Communication skills – You can listen to and capture the needs of technical and business stakeholders and translate them clearly for both audiences. You can differentiate between user needs and expectations. You can be flexible, and you are capable of proactive and reactive communication.
