The Service Designer/Senior Service Designer will support New Zealand Food Safety to implement and maintain a customer centric approach that enables food businesses and exporters to meet their responsibilities under MPI rules. Service designers within New Zealand Food Safety are responsible for working with internal and external stakeholders to decipher and best use insights for projects and key pieces of work.
The Senior Service Designer role includes leading key pieces of work – direction setting, planning, reporting, resourcing and co-ordination of other staff. It is also hoped that the Senior Service Designer will also coach and mentor staff in order to grow service design capability within New Zealand Food Safety.
As a Service Designer, you will be responsible for design and delivery for New Zealand Food Safety projects on the work programme. A typical day for you might include conducting customer interviews to understand needs and identify opportunities, then using that information to demonstrate the exporting customer experience to people within the ministry.
We’re looking for a person who wants to get involved in projects that make a real difference to food businesses and exporters. Projects that you will be involved with (and customers you will work with) include:
- development of new legislation for the organics sector,
- the school lunch initiative – Ka Ora Ka Ako,
- review of wine legislation,
- implementing the mandatory fortification of flour (recently announced) and,
- stakeholder engagement about how we work with Māori business.
Skills and Experience | Ngā Pūkenga me ngā Wheako
Ideally you will have:
- A tertiary Design qualification and/or minimum equivalent experience such as Service Design experience/qualifications
- Proven experience in design and implementation of customer data and insights capture for use in service design improvements
- Capturing/understanding user requirements and articulating these to the right people within and outside the ministry
- Experience analysing complex data and providing high quality advice to key members of the business
- Experience working with ‘clients’ – including identifying and satisfying their needs, and managing their expectations.
- Strong self-management skills – able to take the initiative on business analysis activities without assistance, to apply a range of appropriate analytical techniques and solve problems with minimal supervision.
- Strong relationship management skills – working with people inside and outside the ministry.
